Tim Parchikov balances on the verge of magical realism and metaphysics, capturing elusive states and moments of anxious anticipation. He explores the boundary between reality and imagination, transforming the everyday into a space of hidden tension and ambiguity. His works often reveal a subtle irony and — reflecting his background in cinematography— a distinctly cinephilic aesthetic. In his photographs, time stands still and the world becomes a cinematic freeze-frame, where meaning arises from the anticipation of an event that will never occur.
He has participated in Photoquai (Paris, 2007), the Venice Biennale (2011), the Thessaloniki Photo Biennale (2014), the 5th Moscow Biennale for Young Art (2016), and the Daegu Photo Biennale (South Korea, 2018), among others.
His works are held in the collections of the State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow, Russia), the Maison Européenne de la Photographie (Paris, France), the Moscow Museum of Modern Art (Russia), the Mead Art Museum (Amherst, USA), the Multimedia Art Museum (Moscow, Russia), the Swatch Art Peace Hotel (Shanghai, China), and the Caixa Art Collection (Barcelona, Spain).
Currently lives and works in France.
