Polina Kanis was born 1986 in Saint Petersburg.
She graduated from the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia and the Rodchenko Art School of Photography and Multimedia in Moscow. She is the recipient of the Kandinsky Prize (2011) and the Kuryokhin Prize (2015).
Polina Kanis's works have been presented at numerous solo and group exhibitions, film festivals, and screenings, including solo exhibitions at Haus der Kunst Munich (2017) and the VISIO program at Palazzo Strozzi in Florence (2019), the parallel program of the Manifesta 10 Biennale, the Ural Industrial Biennial of Contemporary Art (2015), Garage Museum of Contemporary Art (2014, 2018), the VI Moscow International Biennale for Young Art (2015), the Moscow International Experimental Film Festival (2016, 2018), the Hamburg Short Film Festival (2019), and many others.
Her films are held in the collections of numerous museums and foundations, including Fonds régional d'art contemporain Bretagne, In Between Art Film S.r.l., Rome, and the Kadist Foundation, Paris.
